The prison program at CCI Tehachapi has been temporarily stopped while the yard is being changed into a Special Needs Yard. This will probably be done by Spring and then we will start again. FYI: Since Feb 2007, we have had over 400 men go through the workshop. Of these 400 men, the yard experienced 3 non-serious 115's…a huge improvement. A 115 is like a ticket and, if serious, can result in more time served and/or time in solitary. 22 of these men became facilitators and have been transferred to other prisons where we hope there is an AVP program they can continue to work with. So we will start over soon. If you will be interested in facilitating or if you want to start your training with the inmates, call Diana 661-942-3025.

While it is yet unclear when a program will be restarted at Tehachapi, we have been in contact with staff there, and they do have AVP in their plans there. We are waiting for final plans to be announced.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

AVPAV has recently been invited, along with other nonprofit service organizations, to participate in creation of a reentry transition program for released inmates in the Antelope Valley. We will keep you up to date on that as it progresses. Along the way in the process, we may hear about similar transition program needs in other areas around Los Angeles, etc., and as anything of that nature arises, perhaps some of us can consider looking into accommodating those as well. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Promotional Items Available:
  • Multi-color LED message board (preprogrammed with AVP contact and general information in English and Spanish, AC/DC capability...or programmable for your use).

  • Personal DVD player (10" 180°-turning tablet screen, for showing AVP vidoes in 1:1 setting, AC/DC capability).

  • Do you have any promotional materials or items available for use, purchase or sharing (for editing, etc.)...or any related services? Let Doug Couch (AVPAV) know. All facilitators or other interested people are encouraged to use AVP clothing, bumper stickers, magetic automobile signs, AVP stationery, business cards, etc., to help get the word out that we exist.

  • AVP-Antelope Valley has various promotional print design files available in Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and other software (with software available for certain items). These can be edited to suit your own local needs. Flyers, posters, small display items, letterheads, envelopes, business cards, information in various AVP subject areas. If you need an AVP-related web site, let Doug know..."very" inexpensive and easy to do a basic web site to refer people to. See www.avpav.org (this web site) as an example. Contact Doug Couch for details.

  • Additional types of AVP-embroidered items will be created in the future. If you would like a shirt or jacket done, let Doug know. (Jackets don't have to be 1-layer, but it's best to use items that are not too thick or multi-layered so they will more readily go into the embroidery hoop.) I may be setting up the embroidery machine at some of the indoor events where we have an AVP table set up...mostly to gain attention to AVP, but perhaps also as a fund-raiser.
